I love Sheringham, a really great & traditional seaside town. But I do think that the prom area in general really needs some TLC. It could be so attractive - take a look at Cromer and the regeneration of it's seafront & prom. Also the boy racer situation around Gun Street and the seafront carpark needs to be looked into to make it safer for residents and visitors alike.

Re.East Prom: 2 years ago when I first moved to Sheringham there were coloured lights all along East Prom. On commencement of the sea defence work they were taken down and never replaced which is a shame. May I suggest that they are replaced?...this would help deter vandals as well as making the area more attractive!
I have also noticed that the grass banks of the walkway from the putting green to the beach is no longer being fully mown. It is being cut only at the bottom! |

I have to agree with Tony Randall about the East Prom - there is so little to encourage people in that direction - even the traditional seaside "bright lights" stop short of East Prom!
I think part of the problem is that there is so much dereliction along there - the disused toilet block, a disused kiosk, it doesn't give a very welcoming message to anyone other than vandals! Decent lighting and CCTV may be a good starting point. |

Hi, i just decided to drop by to check out the site and i really like the whole idea and ethics of Sheringham Plus. So i thought i would just say a big thankyou, anyway...
My suggestions 1. i know this is a contreversial issue around the area, but i DO think we should have a Tescos BUT it should be comparable to our size. we do need a supermarket in town but a much smaller one, the one they proposed is supposed to serve 40 thousand ish and we have a population of about seven thousand, infact i have done a whole essay based project on this as part of my geography coursework! 2. parts of the Town centre should be pedestrianised, i think from the town clock to the seafront should be made much more pedestrian freindly, if not complete free of cars on certain days (like fakenham) this would improve the general enviroment of sheringham and let it become more tourist freindly! 3. Their is a definate lack in youth facilities, the youth club is rarely open and has a lack of ideas or imagination, i know their is difficulties with funding and volunteers but the teen and twentie is a reasonable venue and should be used much more, community projects invovling music making and art could be held almost week in week out. team based games, discussion of local issues, debating, all sorts of regular activities could be arranged it just needs a will from locals and some funding. look forward to hearing from you, morgan p.s sorry about any spelling errors! |

As a fairly new resident of Sheringham, I congratulate the town on it's range of local shops. You are so lucky to have a choice of good quality butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers and bakers. The ironmongers, Blythe and Wright is a sheer joy to browse and shop in. Having moved here from a larger City, I see how special Sheringham is. Don't spoil it by letting a large supermarket into the town! With Oddfellows' improvements and the development of the Mo, this will draw more people towards the seafront area. This area needs improving visually and developing to encourage visitors to spend more time here. We should look to improve the pedestran access to this area too. If it is paved to look more like a pedestrain area and traffic is slowed down, this would help.
Do think a little more carefully about how the less mobile can get around the shops and eateries more easily - some adjustments to access needed in some places. When I compare Sheringham to larger Towns, you have got so much right, don't spoil it by making too many changes. |

A few suggestions for consideration:
Why not remove all kerbs between the loke leading to West Cliff and the sea front and surface the road/pavements in the same material. This will slow the traffic and remind drivers that pedestrians will be in the street. It will also avoid pedestrians turning their ankles on the narrow kerbs. The proposed lighting for the promenade looks a bit out of place in Sheringham. The upright standards for the streets may be in keeping but the sea front are not. Could a more "traditional" variety be used whilst avoiding light pollution into the sky. Might I suggest that the lighting covers the whole length of both East and West proms without any dark spots. Could the rather scruffy concrete surface of the proms be resurfaced with a more attractive material.I understand that this is part of the sea defences but it is a major part of the Sheringham resort. Beach Huts. I believe that the contract with the local council for the wooden huts calls for them to be stained every alternative year to keep up their appearance. They are also to be painted in colours agreed by the council. Many of the huts are showing the need for repainting and if left untreated will only encourage vandals to ply their trade! Might I suggest that Sheringhamplus ask the council to enforce their contracts otherwise the works to the promenades will be spoilt. I trust these topics are of interest |

It is only a matter of time before someone will be seriously injured as a result of the traffic flow at the lower end of the town.
Why not put in pedestrain priority measures that would close the main street from the town clock down at particular times. People would be able to walk and browse at their leisure without worrying about being struck by a car. If people drive past a shop they are less likely to buy anything, but if they are free to roam they will entrer the shops. We have to make Sheringham an appealing place to shop, so let's make it better for the shoppers to get around. Widening the pavements is not enough. |

As a visitor to Sheringham, I believe that pedestrianising the centre (or at least restricting access to the High Street to delivery vehicles only) would significantly improve the centre of the town. Furthermore, I believe that if the local council has any real vision it would encourage the cafes, restaurants and bars to provide outside tables and seating (in good weather at least). I am sure that this would prove particularly attractive to a broad mix of visitors, especially families and would benefit the local businesses through the generation of additional revenue. The adoption of this more sophisticated continental model should also serve to minimise anti-social behaviour in the evening period as other towns and cities in the UK who have moved in this direction have discovered.

The regeneration of Sheringham must involve issues like traffic control and tourist 'attractiveness', but also the inclusion of youth schemes. Without youth schemes, our young people will turn to antisocial behaviour and ultimately leave the area when older.
The Regeneration team should consider the creation and ongoing maintenance of existing & new projects to attract the interest & support of Sheringham's youth (including the skate park(& other outdoor activities), drop in centres, outreach, and support networks. Best Wishes Rob |

The east beach and 'prom' are a largely untapped tourist attraction in that most visitors turn west when they reach the sea wall at the end of the high street.
As one looks east from the 'red light' there is little incentive to walk in that direction. Some brightening up around the 'tank' would help along with some indication at the top of Gun Street that there is a route past Oddfellows Hall and the new 'Mo' museum. For the record I declare my interest in 'Made In Norfolk' in Lifeboat Plain and 'Rallentando' in the High Street |
